KARACHI, April 26: Reckless driving claimed four lives in the city on Friday.

A 12-year-old girl died in a road accident on University Road. Naz Bibi was knocked down by a speeding minibus of route G-17 near Arif Arcade in Safoora goth on University Road in the police limits of Sachal. She was walking across the road when the accident occurred, the police said. She was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she died.

Following the accident, tension griped the area and enraged youths forced shopkeepers to pull their shutters down. Protesters also stoned some passing vehicles.

A water crushed a six-year-old boy to death in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The police said that Taha was run over by a speeding water tanker (AE-0418) while walking across a road near the Pehelwan goth chowk. He died on way to JPMC.

The boy was returning home from school at noon when the accident took place.

The police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver, Zulfiqar, and impounded the vehicle.

Mohammed Abbas, aged 55, was seriously injured when the passenger coach on which he was travelling overturned while trying to save a cyclist, in Landhi, the police said. Hae was rushed to the JPMC where he died.

A woman died in a road accident at Al-Asif Square.

The police said that Rani Bibi, aged 37, was run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle near Al-Asif Square. She died in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A young man was seriously injured in a road accident in Landhi. The police said that Mohammed Yousuf, aged 19, suffered serious injuries when a speeding minibus hit him. He had been admitted to the JPMC where he was stated to be in serious condition.

Several passengers were injured when a passenger coach overturned after it was hit by an NLC tanker at Nipa.

The police said that a Gul Coach overturned near the Nipa traffic intersection when a NLC tanker collided with it. The injured were rushed to the JPMC. No one was seriously injured in the accident.
