TOBA TEK SINGH, April 22: Four workers died and two sustained serious injuries in Gojra when a steam boiler of a factory exploded on Monday morning.
All the workers were at work in the textile sizing factory on Moongi Bangla Road, two kilometres from Gojra town, when the boiler exploded. The blast was so strong that the roof of main hall of the factory adjoining the boiler room collapsed as a result of which they buried alive under the debris. Bashir of Chak 369-JB, Mushtaq of low income housing colony in Gojra and Shaukat Ali of Chak 371-JB were pulled out of the rubble dead. Mansha of Chak 241-GB died in the Gojra THQ Hospital. Ishaq and Ashraf of Gojra were stated to be in serious condition.
TEACHERS’ STRIKE: The teaching staff of the Government High School, Mauza Nawab Bhoot (Arrouti), observed strike on Monday against the alleged police torture on them.
They wore black armbands.
A demonstration was staged by the people of nearby villages on Saturday when police had arrested some students and teachers who had a dispute with wagon owners.
HUNGER STRIKE: The three-day hunger strike camp organized by the Muttahida Mahaz Asataza (MMA) ended here on Monday.
The district education officer visited the camp and assured the hunger strikers that their demands would be sent to higher authorities.
WHEAT PURCHASE: The food department will procure 50,000 metric tons of wheat from Toba Tek Singh district.
The department has fixed 250,000 metric tons target from Faisalabad division — 170,000 metric tons from Jhang district and 30,000 metric tons from Faisalabad district.
The department has set up 34 wheat procurement centres in the district. Farmers will be provided empty bags at the ratio of 10 bags per acre.
