LAHORE, April 22: Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries & Production, Abdul Razak Dawood has expressed the hope that a report on the national strategy on engineering would be finalized and submitted to the President by the end of next month.
This he said in an interview after the concluding session of the two-day meeting of different steering committees on the engineering vision here on Monday.
The national engineering strategy of the country is being prepared in the light of reports of 11 sectoral bodies on different engineering sectors comprising leading manufacturers and expert in this field.
The minister said that strategies for eight sectors including the automotive sector, fans, surgical goods and cutlery, consumer durable, electronics, ceramics and non-metal and electrical capital goods have been finalized.
Meanwhile, strategies for remaining three sectors of casting and forging, light engineering and moulds and dyes would be completed soon.
He said that work to prepare a comprehensive engineering vision for Pakistan was started in August last under directives of President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
A team of experts has studied in detail the role of the engineering sector in development of countries like, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc., during the past 20 years.—APP
