ISLAMABAD, April 21: Sheikh Saadi’s poetical works have guided the nation of the world in every phase of humanity in general said Prof Dr Reza Mostaiavi Sabzewari, Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran.

He was speaking on the International Saadi Day observed by Iranian Embassy at its cultural consulate here on Sunday.

He was paying homage to the great Iranian poet for his knowledge, learning and wisdom, which is the hallmark of Saadi’s poetry and teachings. The function was attended by university and college scholars, writers, poets and intellectuals.

Dr Sabzewari said Saadi in his book ‘Gulistan’ overwhelmed the public and his fame spread across the world for the sweetness of his words and its essence.

He said one of the ways to ascertain the popularity of a poet or writer is the existence of a large number of manuscripts in a country.

Availability of Saadi’s works in a country demonstrates his spiritual influence and effect on the people, otherwise there would be no other reason for transcription and copying, keeping in view the difficulties faced in preparing a manuscript.

He said his works have added colour and beauty to the world libraries and attract the attention of readers.
