FAISALABAD, April 17: The Pakistan People’s Party will approach all organizations of lawyers and teachers to muster their support for anti-referendum campaign and to ensure their participation in a public meeting of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy in Lahore on April 28.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Punjab PPP secretary-general Rana Aftab said efforts would be made to ensure maximum participation of political workers, leaders and people belonging to all walks of life in the public meeting at the Minar-i-Pakistan.
The PPP leader criticized mudslinging on Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif by President Musharraf. “Negative steps are being taken by the government to stop them from taking part in politics which can be dangerous for the sovereignty of the country,” he said.
He claimed Ms Bhutto would return to Pakistan soon after the announcement of election schedule.
Former PML-L MPA Rana Sanaullah Khan, in a statement, also criticized the statement of Gen Musharraf to oust Nawaz and Benazir from national politics.
ARD’s Punjab secretary-general Chaudhry Safdar Rehman, in a statement, said no-one would be allowed to create hurdles in the way of holding its public meeting at the Minar-i-Pakistan.
