LARKANA, April 17: The meeting of the PPP, Larkana District, held here on Wednesday unanimously rejected the proposed referendum and announced to stage a chain of hunger strikes in all the Talukas of the district starting from April 20 to 27.

Ayaz Soomro, senior vice president of the PPP, Larkana District, chaired the session which was attended among others by Haji Munawwar Ali Abbasi, former Sindh minister for local bodies, Ghulam Mujtaba Isran, former MPA, Anwer Bhutto, Ms Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, Ms Nasiba Channa, members of the Sindh Council, presidents and secretaries of the cities and talukas.

Shamsuddain Qazi, giving the details of the meeting, said that the PPP in Larkana not only would boycott the referendum but also observe the day as “black day” by observing hunger strikes and holding meetings.

The meeting viewed the referendum as an unconstitutional exercise.

Meanwhile, Rauf Korai, secretary, Communist Party, Sindh chapter, in a press statement on Wednesday fully endorsed the decision of the PPP to boycott the referendum terming the exercise unconstitutional.

However, Ghous Bakhsh Mahar, president, PML(Q), Sindh, along with Masood Ahmed Khuhro toured various talukas of Larkana on Wednesday.

According to Qadir Bakhsh Bhatti, a spokesman for the PML(Q), they met with a cross section of the people and appealed them to participate in the public meeting on April 18 in Jacobabad.

MAN SHOT DEAD: A man, Mashooq Brohi, a resident of the Sanjjar Bhatti village, was shot dead near the Civil Court in Shahdadkot on Wednesday.

He had come for hearing in a robbery case. He was drinking tea in a hotel when two motorcyclists opened fire on him killing him on the spot.

Police was able to arrest one of the killers identified as Shoukat Brohi, while the other managed to escape.

It was learnt that a few months back Mashooq had killed one of the assailant’s uncle, so he was killed in revenge.
