Pakistan to compete in C’wealth Games

KARACHI, April 15: Pakistan will participate in the Commonwealth Games and World Pairs Championship being held later this year, President, Pakistan Bridge Federation, Rehana Saigol, said Monday.

She said PBF will be finalising the details to send the team to CW Games being held in Manchester from July 21 to Aug 4 during Managing Committee meeting of the federation.

Mrs Rehana, who is first woman chief of PBF said that four to six members plus an official will be participating in Manchester.

She said Pakistan team for the competition is likely to be selected on basis of recent past performance. She was confident that Pakistan team would give a good account of themselves in 22-country CW competition.

PBF top official said the organisers in the CW Games will be providing some facilities to the bridge players besides other athletes.

Mrs Saigol maintained they will be sending a strongest possible team for the games.

She informed that after CW Games, a number of Pakistan pairs will be featuring in the World championship to be held in Montreal (Canada) from August 16 to 31.

She said the World Pairs Championship is an open event and all participating countries can send as many pairs as they like.

PBF chief said all the Pakistan participants will be responsible for their own resources to take part in the championship. She said PBF will only be responsible for recommending and forwarding their entries in the world championship.

PBF chief said Pakistan will also be taking part in the Bridge Federation of Asian and Middle East (BFAME) Zone-IV scheduled at Dhaka (Bangladesh) in March/ April 2003.

She said winning team of National Bridge Championship slated to be held in October/ November will represent Pakistan in the BEFAME.—APP
