Change in train route condemned

JHANG, April 15: People belonging to all walks of life have condemned the railway authorities decision to change the route of Chenab Express.

The route of the train was changed a couple of months ago and fulfilled a longstanding demand of the residents of Jhang city and Saddar. It connected Shaheenabad, Jhang Saddar and Shorkot Cantonment areas and solved the problems of a large number of people.

The only express train which passed through Jhang was Rohi Express, running between Samasata and Rawalpindi. The need for an express train up to the port city of Karachi passing through Jhang was being felt badly by the traders community. After hectic efforts of the local chamber of commerce and industry, the Chenab Express, originally running on the Shaheenabad-Shorkot Cantt, via, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Gojra and Toba Tek Singh, was rerouted to pass through Shah Jewna and Jhang.

The traders community took out a procession last week to lodge a protest against the stoppage of train. Lawyers, newsmen, shopkeepers and other civic organizations, through separate resolutions, urged the railway authorities to review the decision.
