DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 15: Scores of people blocked traffic in Taunsa Sharif, the Indus Highway, to protest over trespassing, harassment and aerial firing by Multan anti-narcotics force officials during raid.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that ANF officials, during a raid, trespassed accused Muhammad Hassam Bozdar’s house and harassed the women inmates. The women gathered local residents by making hue and cry.

Later, the people assembled in Kutchery Chowk, blocked traffic and chanted slogans against the officials. The raiding team manhandled some of the protesters and resorted to aerial firing, the sources said. The team took away accused Hassam Bozdar and young lawyer Abdul Ghafoor Bozdar, they added.

Later, the protesters blocked traffic on Hashim chowk on the Indus Highway for an hour, they said.

Taunsa tehsil Nazim Khawaja Sheeraz told this correspondent that the officials misbehaved with him when he intervened and threatened to shoot him dead.

When contacted, Dera Ghazi Khan Range DIG Tahir Anwar Pasha informed that they would take the issue to the ANF high-ups as the raiders did not inform the local police.

The protesters would continue blockades till action against the culprits, the Nazim concluded.
