PESHAWAR, April 11: A Chinese delegation donated books and paintings to the University of Peshawar on Wednesday, on the occasion of centenary celebrations of the NWFP.

Chinese Cultural Counsellor Yuan Weixue, speaking in Urdu at the ceremony, said: “As far as possible, we should make our best efforts to strengthen and widen the scope of our ties, specifically in the field of education.”

Peshawar University Vice-Chancellor Syed Zulfiqar Hussain Gillani, the chief guest, said most of historical and archaeological books on Peshawar and its surrounding areas were written by Chinese tourists.

“We received this gift at a time when we have renovated our library, which we wish to raise to international standards. This precious gift would help us in achieving our goals,” he said.
