PESHAWAR, April 9: The National Awami Party Pakistan has convened an extraordinary meeting of its central committee to be held on April 11 here.

The meeting, to be presided over by NAPP president Ajmal Khattak, will take stock of the situation arising out of the announcement of holding referendum by President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

The meeting will also discuss matters of national importance and party affairs, says a press release issued here on Monday.

A party spokesman dispelled the impression that the meeting of the central committee had been convened to back the referendum plan of the president.

He said the party leadership had not taken any decision on opposing or supporting the referendum plan.

As it is an important matter, the decision could only be taken by the NAPP central committee, he said.
