RAWALPINDI, April 7: Muhammad Munir captured his second successive title in two weeks as he won the Chief Executive Gold Medal Open Championship at the Rawalpindi Golf course Sunday by one stroke.
Munir, of PTCL, who had also won the President’s Gold Medal Championship in Islamabad last week, fired one under par 71 for an aggregate of 217 over three days in the professional category.
In second place, a stroke behind, was Islamabad’s Mehmood Kiani who finished par 72 for an overall score of 218 while Muhammad Siddique from Faisalabad, trailing in fourth place on the penultimate day, carded a fine 71, to take third place with an aggregate of 220.
Rawalpindi’s Salman Yasin Khawaja landed the net gold in the amateurs competition with 212 while two other golfers, also from Rawalpindi - Lt. Col Munir Haider (213) and Lt. Col Muhammad Ibrar (217) took silver and bronze.
The experienced Taimur Hasan claimed the gross honours with a total of 223 after three days of competition. Waqas Ahmed, also finished with an identical score but had to be content with second place as Taimur had a better round. Shahid Javed (224) clinched third spot.
Lt. Col Tariq Aleem, who carded 141 over two days, emerged the winner of the seniors net competition while Col. Sabir (144) was second and Asad Qureshi (145) took third place.
In the gross event, Brig. Ghafoor Raja took the top honours with 156 while Hashim Khan was second.
Huma Lee was the top woman golfer in the net category as she took gold after aggregating 150. Sook Hyung, four strokes behind was second and Mehvish Chishtie (155) took the bronze.
The ladies gross title went to Tahira Nazir (164) while Jamila Jabbar (173) and Shahzadi Ghulfam (180) were second and third.
