GUJRANWALA, April 6: Motorcycle rickshaw owners took out a protest rally against the traffic police here on Saturday.
They parked their vehicles on the Pasrur Road and chanted slogans against the indifferent attitude of the traffic police.
They accused the traffic police of issuing them challan tickets of Rs300 to Rs400 on minor issues and impounding their vehicles without any justification.
They drove away their vehicles on the Sialkot Road and also staged their protest in front of the district Nazim’s office in the district court.
They dispersed peacefully on the assurance of senior district government officers that their problems would be resolved instantly.
ARRESTED: A National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) representative was arrested by police on Saturday over charges of corruption and manhandling a union councillor Nazim.
Nadra had reportedly appointed one Ghulam Husain to collect the computerized national identity card forms from the local people at Rs35. However, he allegedly charged Rs300 to 500 from the people.
At a meeting presided over by union council Nazim Aslam Ibrahim Ansar, the council passed a resolution against him and sent it to the district registration authority.
The district registrar inducted two senior officials of registration authority to conduct a probe. They were recording the statements of the people in the union council office when accused came there, abused people and councillors and threatened them with dire consequences.
The accused allegedly manhandled a councillor over the same issue a few days back.
The members of the inquiry committee and the Nazim asked the police to arrest the representative.
CANCELLED: A local court on Saturday sent an accused along with his guarantor to jail after the rejection of his bail for submitting fake documents of surety bonds.
Police had arrested Shahzad for his involvement in a criminal case, but his guarantor Amir produced fake documents for his bail application.
On the orders of court, a case has been registered against them.
