MULTAN, April 6: The women should be imparted quality education to bring them on par with men in country’s progress.

This was stated by Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Ghulam Mustafa while speaking at the 31st convocation of the Women Girls Degree College, Kutcheri, here on Saturday.

He said the students of the institution would have the facility to consult books in the libraries of the university.

He regretted only seven per cent of the female students, after passing MBBS examination, had been offered jobs in the hospitals. The women should render services after completing their education as it would be beneficial both for themselves and for the country.

Speaking on the occasion, college Principal Sajida Malik said more than 8,000 girls had been studying in the institution and they had always secured good marks in examinations.

However, she said, they had been facing quite a number of problems.

Scores of teachers had from time to time been transferred from the college, resulting in the shortage of teachers, she said.

She also complained that the students had been facing problems in the absence of proper transport facilities as there were only two buses in the college.

A laboratory was also needed for the students of MSc psychology, she demanded.

Executive District Officer (education) Hameed Raza Siddiqui said funds would be earmarked to resolve their problems in the next fiscal.

Earlier, the BZU VC decorated 35 medals on the girls who secured positions in BA and MA examinations from 1993 to 1998. Degrees were awarded to the MA English, Islamiat and MSc psychology students.—Nouman
