Traffic cop among four killed in accidents
LAHORE, April 4: Four people, including a traffic sergeant, were killed and as many injured in two accidents in the city on Thursday.
A rashly-driven van knocked down a traffic sergeant, a motorcyclist and escaped after smashing a car at Kalma Chowk.
Police said that a van (LOK-1441) was coming from Township. It reached Kalma Chowk when the van driver broke through the signal. The traffic sergeant came forward to stop it but it sped away after knocking him down him. It also hit a motorcycle (LHQ-6098) and a car (LXS-335). The sergeant, the motorcyclist and the car driver sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital where sergeant ASI Hayatullah, motorcyclist Muhammad Iqbal died and the condition of the car driver was stated to be critical.
A case was registered against the absconding van driver with no arrest.
In the other accident, a motorcycle rickshaw (LXS-256) was on his way when a speeding van (QAC-7638) hit it in Shafiqabad. The rickshaw driver and three of its passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. Two passengers identified as Rasheeda Bibi, 45, and Sadiq, 60, succumbed to their injuries and the condition of the driver and the other passenger was stated to be critical.
SHOT DEAD: A man was allegedly shot dead over a petty issue in Ichhra on Thursday.
Police said that the relatives of Nadeem Husain, 30, had a quarrel with Matloob, alias Pappu. Nadeem went to Pappu’s house to solve the matter when Pappu and his accomplice Tariq opened fire on him. He was taken to the Services Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.
Nadeem is survived by a wife and three children. Meanwhile, a case was registered against the accused with no arrest.
ELECTROCUTED: A Wapda worker was electrocuted while working in Gulberg on Thursday.
Javed Ahmed was at work on a pole when he suffered an electric shock. He fell down and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the General Hospital where he died.
Javed is survived by a wife and three children.
Meanwhile, members of the Wapda Hydro Electro Central Labour Union have expressed grief over the death of Javed Ahmed.
