RAWALPINDI, April 1: The Punjab government would induct retired military and civil servants into the boards of governor (BoGs), to be constituted in various autonomous hospitals in the province, sources in the health department said.

Each board, according to the Punjab Medical and Health Institutions Rules 2002, would comprise five unofficial members from among the educationists, jurists, financial experts, philanthropists, management experts and retired civil and military officers.

The sources said, according to rough estimates, three among the five members would be retired servicemen.

“The health department has recommended different panels for various hospitals, which would then choose from among them five persons as members of the board.

“The respective corps headquarters would also be consulted before inducting the servicemen into the board”, the sources said.

They further said the chairmen of various boards would also be elected among the unofficial members.

According to the Rules: “The chairman of the board shall be elected by the members of the board from amongst the unofficial members at the first meeting.”

However, the health department officials showed a mix reaction over the retired officers’ induction into the boards. Those who defend it say that the induction will make the institutions strong, as the retired servicemen are highly experienced, apolitical and work hard that would change the existing environment of the hospitals.
