LANDI KOTAL, March 31: The students of government degree college at Landi Kotal in Khyber Agency blocked the main Landi Kotal-Peshawar road for all kinds of traffic near the Charwazgai area here on Saturday.
They were demanding probe into the alleged embezzlement of college funds and other misappropriation they pinpointed in the college matters.
The students said that the furniture purchased for the college had been taken to the official residence of the principal, and the ambulance was in the use of the principal’s son.
They further said that the principal had installed the college telephone at his residence, which, they said, had been disconnected for non-payment of Rs40,000 bill.
The students while demanding the immediate transfer of the principal, said that he had illegally opened three tuck-shops in the college premises.
The road blockade was later lifted on intervention of tribal elders and local political authorities, who assured the students that proper inquiry would be conducted into the matter.
Official sources said that the principal was also involved in charging high migration fee from the students. He received Rs1,180 each from a number of students for their migration to other colleges, the sources revealed.
Another source at the APA office said that the summary with regard to the college matters had been put up to the provincial governor and that the issue would be resolved in two weeks at the latest.
Later, sources said that the college administration had expelled some four students, including the students union president Saifoor Shinwari, from the college for staging a protest demonstration against the college administration.
It was the second time in two weeks that the students of the college blocked the main road to demand inquiry against the college administration over their involvement in corrupt practices.
