ISLAMABAD, March 26: Pakistan Muslim League (N) has rejected the fresh delimitation of constituencies for the forthcoming general elections in the country, alleging this is one of the most devastating part of pre-polls rigging.
“We have solid reasons to believe that the delimitation of constituencies announced by the chief election commissioner has been conducted and finalized by the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) and the Election Commission has been used merely as post office,” Central Secretary Information PML-N Mohammad Siddiqul Farooque said while talking to the agency here on Tuesday.
He said independent media reports and analysis also endorsed that this highly important work which would affect holding of free, fair and transparent polls, had been compiled in consultation with some handpicked and rootless politicians.
Replying to a question, he said the Pakistan Muslim League (N) would definitely participate in the forthcoming general elections to expose all characters of pre-polls rigging, and rigging on polling day. “We will make a strong case against these characters in the court of the people of Pakistan, with the confidence to frustrate the evil designs of those who want to rob the people of their right to elect representatives of their choice and put the country on the path of constitutional democracy”, he added.
Mr Farooque said the reaction of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Chief Justice (Rtd) Irshad Hasan Khan to a question that what action would he take against General Pervez Musharraf, who had categorically announced not to allow leaders of two major political parties, including Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto, to contest elections, also reflected his helplessness. He said if the CEC was independent and enjoyed sovereign power to hold the election, he should have categorically announced to take necessary action.
He said the PML-N would welcome tangible steps for transparent polls including action against the President who had tried to rig the elections before formal polling by making such an announcement. — PPI
