HYDERABAD, March 24: On the eve of Ashura, the Hyderabad police and paramilitary forces patrolled the areas of Qasimabad, Latifabad, and Hyderabad in 53 vehicles.
The patrol was led by senior police officers and Rangers officers.
The vehicles moved on the main roads at slow speed for several hours so as to make sure that there were no disturbances on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The Shahbaz force, which moves on motorcycles, and the traffic police were in the forefront followed by the mobiles of seven sub-divisional police officers and the police force of 18 police stations. Besides, there were a number of Rangers vehicles.
Police taking elaborate security measures had fixed cameras on the route from which the Ashura procession would be passing so that it could be monitored by police officers at the city police station.
The DPO, Hyderabad, has also set up checkposts at all sensitive points. A large number of plainclothes policemen will accompany the procession and will be patrolling the sensitive areas.
On the day of Ashura, the main route from Qadamgah Maula Ali to Karbala Dadan Shah will be protected by laying barbed wires so that there would be no chance of any miscreant coming in from one of the sidelanes.
The bomb disposal squad will also be vigilant throughout the day. Under the instructions of the additional inspector general, Hyderabad, Abdur Rauf Yousufzai, security measures have also been taken in other districts of the region.
