SANGHAR, March 20: The taluka Nazim Khipro and 7 Nazims of UCs accused the irrigation authorities of stealing water from the Khipro canal.

The Nazim Haji Khuda Bux Daro, along with Nazim of UCs Phuladiyoon, Khahi, Hathungo, Kamil Hingro, Bilwal Hingoro, Chenhaar and Girhore Sharif visited the Nara canal and raided Makhi regulator on Wednesday.

The visitors told to newsmen that there was only 6 feet water at Makhi regulator from where the Khipro canal originated which was flowing below zero gauge at the time of visit.

They alleged that the director irrigation, Mirpurkhas, had released water down stream Makhi regulator which, according to rules, should not have been released in this season. But 6 feet water had been released.

They also accused the incharge of the regulator, XEN Mohammad Mithal Unner, of opening the gates after taking bribe on the pretext of providing water to the Nara tail and Umerkot.

They further said that how could it be possible to send 6 feet water to Umerkot which was 200 miles away. They regretted that there was no drinking water in the Khipro canal while the irrigation officials were mismanaging it to earn money.

They warned that if water supply was not restored till March 22, they would themselves close the Nara canal from Makhi regulator.

When the raid was conducted no SDO or irrigation official was present on the site. An expert engineer who accompanied the Nazim said that the water flow in the Nara was mismanaged.

It may be mentioned here that the people of Khipro had protested against the non-availability of water some three days ago and had closed the Sanghar-Khipro road for two hours and the taluka Nazim had assured them to restore water supply with in a week.
