GUJRANWALA, March 18: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco), city circle, on Monday formed 10 mobile teams comprising SDOs to launch a drive against power thieves.
Speaking at an open kutchery at Wapda division No 3, city circle superintendent engineer Sheikh Phool Muhammad warned that corrupt and inefficient officials would be dismissed from service.
He directed the XEN and SDOs to resolve consumers’ problems on priority basis and provide domestic and commercial connections within four and seven days, respectively.
The SE listened to scores of consumers’ complaints and got resolved them on the spot.
Executive engineers, SDOs and other senior Gepco officials were also present on the occasion.
BOOKED: The Punjab governor’s fake public relation officer (PRO) was booked by Civil Lines police here on Monday.
Posing himself as governor’s PRO, Gujrat police ASI Ijaz Mumtaz ringed DIG office directing the official to transfer ASI Mumtaz from Gujrat to Sialkot. Afzaal Latif, the DIG office telephone operator, told him that he would convey his message to the DIG on his arrival. The investigation later revealed that the ASI had himself made the call.
CONDEMNED PRISONER: A local court on Monday issued black warrants for a condemned prisoner who would be hanged on April 3 for killing two brothers.
Asif had murdered two brothers Afzal and Ashfaq in Wazirabad over a minor issue on June 6, 1990. The Lahore High Court and the supreme court had upheld the decision of the sessions court. The president had also rejected his clemency appeal. He was to be executed on March 26, but the district and sessions judge had deferred his execution till April 3 due to Muharram.
LAID TO REST: Bodies of a man and his three sons who were shot dead on Sunday in Ghakkhar town were laid to rest on Monday at Banke Cheema village graveyard amid tight security.
Miraj Din Gujjar and his three sons were shot dead by their rivals over a land dispute. Their bodies were taken to the THQ Hospital, Wazirabad, for autopsy.
Police teams were conducting raids on the residences and outhouses of the outlaws, but they could not be arrested.
Meanwhile, Ehsanullah, the nephew of slain Miraj Din, and driver Muhammad Nazir who were kidnapped by the outlaws have returned safely.
GANG BUSTED: The district police claimed they had busted a gang of half a dozen proclaimed offenders and 18 court fugitives during a general hold-up here on Monday.
Police also recovered eight pistols, two 12 bore guns, a revolver, cartridges and looted goods from their possession.
ARREST WARRANTS: The local banking court No 2 on Monday issued arrest warrants for four defaulters and directed the police to produce them before the court on next hearing.
Abdul Qayyum and Abdul Matin had obtained Rs5.3 million loan from the Allied Bank, Hafizabad branch; Muhammad Ibrahim Rs110,000 from Habib Bank, Kamoke branch and Maqsood Ahmad Rs145,000 from Habib Bank, Wahando branch, a few years ago. Despite repeated notices, they failed to return the loan.
CRUSHED: An old man was crushed to death on Monday by a speeding bus near Kotli Sahian, Ghakkhar town.
Muhammad Tufail was crossing the GT Road when he met an accident.
Ghakkhar police have registered a case against the driver and are investigating.
