SWABI, March 16: The Naro Banda Government Primary School in Maneri Bala, established 45 years ago, has only two teachers for seven classes.
The school also lacks water supply, furniture, boundary wall, toilets and other facilities. It is located near the main road and a market. The teachers have erected a fence of branches. The students have to bring water from the nearby houses.
There are only three rooms, one of them has been declared dangerous by the communication and works department and the teachers have been asked to keep the students away from it.
However, the teachers have no option but to accommodate two classes in the room. But during rain the room’s roof leaks forcing the teachers to send the students home.
A social worker, Zarab Khan, told Dawn that Rs10,485 were allocated for construction of the boundary wall under the Khushal Pakistan Programme when the former assistant commissioner and chief of the local army monitoring team were invited to the school 14 months back, but the amount had been wasted.
He said that in February the head teacher quarrelled with other teachers and the elders of the area informed the education officials, who immediately replaced them with three other teachers. However, he said, one of them joined his duty only for three days, the second frequently remained absent and only one came regularly to the school.
