RAWALPINDI, March 5: The health department has devised a monitoring system to check professional malpractice at the rural health centres (RHCs), basic health units (BHUs) and government dispensaries, official sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

They said, after the induction of 104 doctors for the BHUs, monitoring of these doctors would be done at the district level by the provincial government and army teams.

The doctors, they said, were being hired on lucrative salaries of Rs12,500 with the permission to do private practice. However, they will face strict scrutiny so that the general public is not affected if they fail to deliver properly.

Though, the sources said, the contract is for five years, it can be terminated at any time if their performance is not up to mark.

“We have already made arrangements to make replacements, if needed, without any delay”, a senior official said.

These doctors, he said, were being hired for specific positions and would not be transferred during the period of a contract.
