KARACHI, March 3: The City Schools clinched the WWF Nature Carnival Trophy 2002 for developing the three dimensional models on themes related to nature and environment here on Sunday.

The Nature Carnival, organized by the WWF-Pakistan and attended by some 30 schools of the city, offered a rare opportunity to city children to learn about mountains of Pakistan, the Indus Dolphin and its habitat, wetlands of Pakistan and threats to them.

There were also stalls highlighting the hazards of air pollution and efficiently conveying the message “Say No to Bear Baiting”.

All this was reflected in the models prepared by students from primary to secondary levels and belonging to different schools including, branches of Falcon Public School, Beacon House, City School, Lahore Public, etc.

The confident and well-attired students were perhaps more than keen to share the information they had gathered while preparing their models. This process of sharing knowledge was with all groups of visitors, without any distinction, leading to interesting talk. The exercise could definitely be made more interesting if these kids were allowed to elaborate their projects in Urdu, too, for many of their counterparts were not so well-versed in English.

For other children accompanying their parents to witness the show and enjoy the day there was plenty more to avail, most popular being the face painting segment apart from a puppet show and a fancy dress show.

The WWF had also developed special interactive games for the participants. Each of this activity carried an environmental message helping children to learn through action. “Quiz time One Question One Prize” also drew much attention of students.—APP
