KARACHI Feb 8: Lover’s Life, a five-year-old thoroughbred bay mare with a fine victory last week, after being engaged in a tense duel with Sachin in the home stretch, starts off as our day’s best when the Winter Gymkhana Races gets under way at the Karachi Race Course Saturday at 1.00 p.m.
But Lover’s Life, contesting with 13 other runners in the main event, will have to put her best foot forward to ward off the keen challenge of another five-year-old chestnut mare Ever Smiling. The latter has won three races on the trot and with Shahid Rasheed once again in the saddle, will be going all out to register another splendid win for her owner Ch. Sajid Rashid.
Son Of None, with a good lad astride should make amends for last week’s run and easily grab the third berth.
All in all six events are on the card to be run over five furlongs.
Another runner that should not lose on Saturday is the grey mare Dushtiani, a close second behind Ever Smiling. With her stable jockey Ahmed astride, Dushtiani should provide owner Abdul Raza with a much awaited victory, with Aziz Love and Zabyan battling it out for the second spot in the fifth race.
In the opener, Royal Springs should provide Syed Ali Gohar Shah with a thrilling victory over Tanveer-e-Sehar and Double Your Money.
Bach Fly is fancied in our columns to pick up the spoils in the second race of the afternoon, chased all the way over the five furlong sprint by Noor-un-Nisa and Rip Off.
The dark bay 12-year-old horse Richy Rich if called upon, could finish the race ahead of Look At Me and Nihal Pervaiz’s bay gelding Wonderful Boy in the next event.
Although finishing off the board last week, the roan gelding Shahdad Star has the speed to win the fourth race, with Just In Fun and Smiling Senorita finishing behind the winner in that very order.
