SARGODHA, Dec 7: Delay in cane crushing by sugar mills’ owners, despite their planning to start it in the last month, has hampered sowing of wheat.

This was stated by Kissan Bachao Tehrik chairman while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.

He said the National Sugar Mills had started the crushing and it was paying 10 rupees less per 40kg. He alleged the mill owners were adding to the woes of growers by short measuring.

Meanwhile, district Nazim Malik Amjad Ali Noon in a press statement expressed his concern over excesses of the mill owners. He said the management was purchasing the cane for Rs35 per maund instead of the fixed rate of Rs42.

He said growers had for quite sometime been kept at constant unease by the non-cooperation of various government departments.

Stocks of sugar cane were lying on the field as the mill owners had refused to pay the amount fixed by the government.

CT SCAN: The Punjab governor has ordered immediate installation of a CT scan at the District Headquarters Hospital.

The installation of Rs24 million scanner has been delayed for the last one year.

The governor issued orders for its installation on the district Nazim’s initiative.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: The government has released Rs50 million for various development schemes to be carried out in the district.

This was stated by Nazim Malik Amjad Ali Noon here on Friday at a ceremony held to hand over cheques for more than Rs4.6 million to the Nazims and Naib Nazims of 32 union councils of tehsils Sillanwali and Shahpur.

He said Rs300 million would be spent in the current financial year on different development schemes.

Mr Noon urged union council Nazims to take keen interest in uplift of their respective constituencies and utilize the funds honestly.

He said every union council would also be provided a further Rs150,000 for the completion of uplift schemes.
