PESHAWAR, Dec 5: Revenue collection of Peshawar Collectorate grew by 12.45 per cent during July to November this fiscal.

According to a spokesman for Peshawar Customs, the customs collectorate generated Rs1,269.9 million which exceeded the corresponding period collection of previous year by Rs140.94 million or 12.45 per cent.

Similarly, the collection of sales tax on imports during the same period was Rs784.70 million which exceeded the corresponding period collection of the previous year (Rs.604.93 million) by Rs179.70 million or 29.72 per cent, he added.

The spokesman stated that the total customs duty and sales tax collection during five months of current fiscal was Rs2,054.6 million, more than the corresponding period collection of Rs1,733.9 million by Rs320.7 million or 18.50 per cent, despite the prevailing crisis in Afghanistan.

The anti-smuggling performance of the customs staff in the Special Checking Squad at Kund had been very impressive during November 2001, he said.

The squad seized Rs14 million contraband goods and Rs66.5 million vehicles.—APP
