FRANKFURT, Nov 24: Bank of France Governor and European Central Bank council member Jean-Claude Trichet said in an interview with a German newspaper on Saturday the ECB may cut interest rates if inflation pressure decreases.
Trichet said in an interview with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the ECB may cut rates if the ECB’s goal of price stability is reached.
Inflation in Europe’s largest economy, Germany, fell below the ECB’s crucial two percent threshold in November, hitting an 18-month low and improving chances that the rest of the euro zone would follow suit at a quicker pace than expected.—Reuters
