KARACHI, Nov 23: Baqai Dolphins beat Pak Gymkhana by nine wickets in the Paragon Cup 2001, Friday, at the UBL “A” ground.
Pak Gymkhana having first use of the wicket were bundled out for 108 runs in 19.2 overs with leg-spinner Danish Kaneria 4/28 and Atif Maqbool 3/12, causing the damage.
Mehmood Hamid (27) and Nasir Wasti (26), were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Baqai Dolphins in reply raced to 109 for 1 in only 9.2 overs, to win the match comfortably by nine wickets. Aftab Ahmed scored (57) and Shahdab Kabir was unbeaten with 33 runs.
In another match played later on the same ground, Malir Gymkhana beat Wrangler CC by 13 runs.
Winning the toss and batting first, Malir Gymkhana were dismissed for 172 runs in 24.4 deliveries. Opening batsman Mohammad Farrukh stroked 67 delightful runs and Farhan Adil not to be left behind, scored (41).
Raees Ahmed (2-28), Mansoor Baig (2-30) and Naseem Shaikh (2-36), bowled well.
Wrangler CC chasing 173 runs for victory, were shot out for 159 runs with one over to spare. Asad Qureshi (40), Mansoor Baig (24), Kashif Hanif (21), Babar Malik (20) and Manzoor Akhtar (20) contributed to their team’s total, but once they were all dismissed, the writing was on the wall.
Mohammad Farrukh (2/-8), Rashid Hanif (2-29) and Younis Khan (2-30) bowled well but their efforts could not see their team through to victory.
