KOHAT, Nov 23: The governor of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, Haji Mohammad Qadeer, has appointed Haji Zaman of Mahaz-i-Milli of Pir Syed Ahmed Gillani corps commander and Hazrat Ali chief of police to ensure peace during the transitional period.

Despite repeated calls and having a large support of Pakhtoons, Gulbadin Hekmatyar, has been denied any share in the interim set-up.

Haji Zaman had told his close aides at a recent meeting in Jalalabad that most of the Afghan groups were ready to install Zahir Shah before any permanent setup.

He said the international community had also favoured the former king’s return as the future developments depended on him.

Haji Zaman had suggested that the international community should ensure that there was no interference from neighbouring countries in the establishment of An Afghan government of people’s choice.

One of the aides to Haji Qadeer informed Dawn that the participants of the meetings, being held regularly to form a joint delegation of Pakhtoons for the Bonn meeting, had said that this chance should not be missed as for the first time in 20 years major powers had agreed to find a permanent solution to the political turmoil and to undertake economic development and reconstruction of Afghanistan.
