PESHAWAR, Nov 20: The customs mobile squad, Mardan and Kund, intercepted and seized five non-custom paid Toyota Corolla motor cars and a Hiace van valuing Rs4.2 million and smuggled goods worth Rs2.3 million during the last 10 days.
According to a press release of the Customs Collectorate, Peshawar, issued here on Tuesday, the customs mobile squad, Mardan, recently intercepted these non-customs paid vehicles for verification of customs documents.
The chassis numbers of the vehicles seemed to be tampered and were thus subjected to chemical examination. The opinion of the Forensic Science Laboratory, Peshawar, was obtained which confirmed that the chassis numbers had been tampered. Therefore, these vehicles have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969.
On Nov 12, the customs team at Kund intercepted a truck No.K-4797 Peshawar and a bus No. RIR-7157 and on search recovered spare-parts, smuggled tea, aluminium scrap and almond, valuing Rs4,82,000.

On Nov 12 a bus No. JA-8317 was searched and smuggled bicycle locks, artificial jewellery, audio cassettes and blankets, valuing Rs1,87,194 were recovered from it.
On Nov 15, a mini truck bearing No.K-1257, Peshawar, was intercepted, at Ring Road, and on search 200 smuggled bags of high density polyethylene, valuing Rs2,80,000 were recovered.
On Nov 15, at Kund buses NOs. DR-7453 and E-6446-Peshawar and a truck No.C-3656 were intercepted and on search smuggled cloth and other miscellaneous goods valuing Rs5,70,238 were recovered. A Toyota Hiace Van No.SB-2095 and a truck SW-1752, coming from Peshawar side were intercepted and on search smuggled goods, valuing Rs1,31,700, recovered from them.
On Nov 14, at Kund smuggled cloth, valuing Rs. 77,902 recovered from Toyota Hiace Van No. BM-731.
Again on Nov 14, a Bus No. JA-3349 coming from Peshawar side searched and smuggled A/S cloth, spare-parts and other miscellaneous goods, valuing Rs2,67,890 recovered.—APP
