LAHORE, Nov 19: The national football training camp to finalise Pakistan senior and under-23 teams will begin at the Model Town ground here from Tuesday.
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has invited 38 probables for the camp who will report to the camp-commandants Siddique Sheikh and Akhtar Mohyuddin. However, neither the camp- commandant nor any probable reached Lahore till filing of this report.
The senior team is to take part in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Gold Cup to be held at Dhaka from Jan 25 to Feb 4, 2002. The under-23 team will be picked for the ninth SAF Games scheduled to be held at Islamabad in March-April next year.
Following probables were called for the training camp:
Haroon Yousaf, Noman Ibrahim, Gohar Zaman, Asadullah, Amir Khan, Qadeer, Ashfaq, Asad (ABL), Jaffar Khan, Amir Shahzad, Mohammad Arif, Ehsanullah, Mohammad Riaz, Ghulam Ali, Zahoor, Shahbaz (Army), Sarfraz Rasool, Amer Riaz, Sajjad, Allah Nawaz (KRL), Saleem Shahzad (HBL), Ibrarullah, Mohammad Arshad (PAF), Atique-ur-Rehman (NWFP), Mohammad Essa (Balochistan), Nomi Martin Gill (Navy), Zaheer Abbas (Railways), Khuda Bux, Tanvir Ahmed, Bahaudr Khan (Wapda), Adeel, Shahid Ahmed, Tahir Kiramat (PTCL), Shakir Taj (Sindh), Nasir Ahmad (PAF), Fareed Majeed and Naseer (KPT).
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) secretary Syed Agha Liaqat Ali will leave for Malaysia Tuesday to attend the Asian Football Confederation meeting and seminar being held at Kuala Lumpur on Nov 23 and 24.
A PFF spokesman told Dawn on Monday that in the meeting, the AFC will finalise the draws of the preliminary round of the Asia Under-17 and Under-20 football cChampionships with the consent of the participating teams.
Later a seminar will be held in which the AFC will brief the participating countries about how to organise the tournaments.
The preliminary round of the Under-17 and Under-20 are to be held from Jan 1, 2002 to June 30.
In Under-17, Pakistan is placed in group six with Turkmanistan and Tajikistan while in Under-20 event Pakistan is in group five with regional countries Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
