DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 30: The non-issuance of degrees by Gomal University has put the future of its numerous graduates at stake.
According to details, only two convocations have been held so far and there are many students still awaiting degrees.
A few have appeared in exams conducted by the NWFP Public Service Commission after submitting provincial degrees.
Syed Hassan Ali Zaidi, Ms Rehana and some others, who appeared before the PBC for the post of lecturers in Inter colleges/higher secondary schools, were advised by the PBC to submit original B.Ed degrees.
According to the rules, the university is bound to issue degrees within 30 days but no degrees have been issued as yet.
The PBC authorities have warned the candidates to provide original degrees or their cases would be dropped.
According to university sources there is no stationary in stock with the Controller of Examinations office to issue degrees.
Solidarity: A joint session of the deans of faculties, chairmen of the departments and heads of the administrative sections of Gomal University was held here on Thursday in the Senate Hall to observe Solidarity Day.
Vice-chancellor Gomal University, D.I. Khan-Qazi Hifzur Rehman presided over the session.
Speaking to the meeting, Mr Qazi stressed the need for unity and action for the security and defence of the country.
He emphasized that the educated lot needed to take cognizance of the seriousness of the matter and appreciate the decision taken by the government.
Earlier, Professor Dr Muhammad Saeed Anwar-Dean faculty of arts asked the people with insight to play their positive role in attitude formation about government’s policies at this critical juncture.
Dr Abdul Sattar Abbasi chairman department of journalism and mass communication conducted the session.
Journalists boycott: Members of the Dera Union of Journalists boycotted the inauguration ceremony of Qurtaba University of Science and Information Technology as protest against the uncooperative attitude of the QUSIT administration.
The administration invited the journalists from the Dera Press Club to cover the function, but not the Dera Union of Journalists.
The union members unanimously decided not to report any event concerning QUSIT in future.
