SAHIWAL, Oct 14: The anti-corruption establishment (ACE) on Friday evening raided Okanwala wheat purchase centre and unearthed embezzlement of 2,584 bags of 100kg each following which Multan deputy food director Rao Muhammad Tauheed on Saturday ordered suspension of its in-charge inspector Rana Imtiaz Ahmed.
Reports said wheat from Okanwala centre being supplied to Adal flour mills, Ghaziabad and Chaudhry flour mills of Chichawatni, had impurities like dust. On complaints by the mills, an inquiry was held which confirmed the malpractice.
On Friday, the Sahiwal ACE conducted a raid at the centre and detected shortage of 2,584 bags. The ACE also found about 1,200 bags containing adulterated wheat and scattered in the godown.
ACE deputy director Rana Shabbir Ahmed Khan is conducting investigation separately.
The Sahiwal DFC has confirmed 2,484 bags’ shortage instead of 2,584 pointed out by the ACE during its raid.
SUSPECTS: Yousafwala police claimed on Saturday to have arrested five suspects from a roadside hotel for planning to loot a passenger bus and recovered five illicit pistols, a pump action and a rifle from their possession.
Those arrested have been identified as Qaiser, Asif, Adnan, Ibaad and Ishaq.
The police claimed that Adnan, Qaiser and Asif confessed to firing on a DSP on Sept 28.
Police have registered six cases under Sections 399 and 402 of the PPC and 13-20/65 of Arms Act and sent them to central jail on judicial remand.
PRAYER LEADERS: Harappa police on Friday arrested five Khateebs, including MMA leaders, for delivering provocative speeches against the government.
Qari Muhammad Sharif, Muhammad Shoaib, Maulana Muhammad Yousaf, Qari Muhammad Tariq and Maulana Muhammad Tayyab were delivering speeches in mosques of Chak 103, 105 and 108/7-R.
They have been sent to central jail on judicial remand.
