SIALKOT, Oct 14: People have been facing great difficulties in getting health facilities due to inordinate delay in the completion of trauma centre.
The project has been politicised due to tussle between former district nazim Mian Naeem Javed and present district administration.
They want to use the project for personal gains due to which the public welfare project has been lying non-functional for the last three years.
On Friday, Mian Naeem visited the trauma centre in Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital.
He accused the present district administration of adopting delaying tactics in the completion of the project.
He expressed grave concern over the situation as imported medical machinery worth Rs60.5 million was rusting.
On the other hand, reigning nazim Akmal Cheema has directed health department to make sincere efforts for making the trauma centre project operational at the earliest.
It is learnt that Rs7.7 million are required for making the centre operational within a month.
The centre is being constructed at the Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital at a cost of Rs25 million. The project was initiated on February 26, 2003. The health department has created 59 posts of doctors, nurse and paramedical staff for the centre.
A recently held meeting of health department officials was told that there was no proper electricity system, water and gas facility at the centre.
While, the buildings department built the building without any sewerage system. The roof of the building was open at some places due to which rainwater enters rooms.
Meanwhile, Dubai Trauma Centre’s Dr Zulfiqar Ahmad has already offered the Sialkot centre affiliation with the Dubai centre for providing advanced health facilities. Dubai centre’s special team would give technical assistance to the doctors and paramedical staff of Sialkot centre.
COMPLAINT: Former nazim Mian Naeem accused the district government of removing the plaques of various development projects initiated in his tenure.
He told newsmen that the people knew that the projects, including trauma center, new fruit and vegetable market, and Head Marala Park were executed during his term in the office. He said that no one could cheat the public by fixing new plaques.
When contacted, district naib nazim Rana Ejaz Ahmad rejected the allegation.
