PESHAWAR, April 29: Governor Khalilur Rehman has said that changes in Fata are inevitable. However, he said, changes would be within the ambit of tribal norms, customs and traditions. “The government has no intention to change the present status of the tribal areas,” he said while addressing a tribal jirga of Mohmand Agency during his visit to the agency headquarters of Ghallani on Friday.

The governor said that the world was undergoing changes and peace dialogues had become the order of the day. “No country could avert such changes as it is an international phenomenon,” he said.

The governor urged the tribesmen to prepare themselves for the changes. However, he assured the tribesmen that the government would regard their customs and traditions during the process.

The governor also urged tribesmen to shun differences, resolve conflicts through mutual understanding and give up the trend of arms culture.

He said Fata development strategy was aimed at reducing poverty, providing civic facilities and opening of new educational and health institutions.

The governor said the entire development process was in the interest of the tribesmen and they should monitor its implementation.—APP
