Turk to head UNDP

UNITED NATIONS, April 26: Secretary General Kofi Annan on Tuesday said he was recommending Kemal Dervis of Turkey as new administrator of the United Nations Development Programme for a four-year term. Mr Dervis will replace Mark Malloch Brown, who was appointed in December replacing Iqbal Riza of Pakistan.

A statement issued following Mr Annan’s decision said Mr Dervis ‘has outstanding qualifications and numerous accomplishments’ in the area of economics and global economic governance.
