HYDERABAD, June 4: Dadu District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar has said that work on 320 development schemes costing Rs920 million has been started in the district under phase-III of the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Mr Sikandar hoped the schemes, including sewerage, water supply schemes, construction of roads and improvement in civic amenities, would usher a new era of development in his district.

Tenders have already been issued for 182 schemes worth Rs240 million. The schemes will be completed by the end of August.

The Sindh government has allocated Rs30 million in the annual development programme which will be spent on the promotion of education in Dadu District.

With the assistance of the Asian Development Bank and another organizations, Rs130 million will be spent on the construction of small and big canals and lining of watercourses as well as the construction of roads.

For the rehabilitation of the drought-affected area of Kohistan, Rs25 million under the Social Action Programme will be spent on water resources and water schemes.

The district Nazim warned that action would be taken against those officials who were inefficient or misappropriated funds.

Anti-encroachment drive: An anti-encroachment drive will be launched in Hyderabad city from June 10 and work on the removal of all the truck stands from the city limits will start from Aug 1.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between the City Nazim, Haji Moinuddin Shaikh, and a delegation of the Anjuman Tajiran-i-Sindh, Hyderabad Zone, held here recently.

All the truck owners have been advised to obtain, if they do not have yet, a plot outside the city limits within the next three months.

The meeting resolved that a ban would be imposed to prevent the entry of trucks into the city between 9am and 5pm.

The meeting also constituted an Anti-encroachment Coordination Committee comprising the representatives of traders and Naib Nazims of various union councils.

The committee will ensure removal of pushcarts, cabins, sugarcane crushing machines and other encroachments from the main roads.

No trader will be allowed to keep his merchandise on the footpath. The goods of defiant trader will be confiscated and auctioned.
