KARACHI: Supermarket to get escalators

KARACHI, March 5: The city government has decided to renovate the Liaquatabad Supermarket on priority basis and provide it with escalators, besides redesigning its facade.

The city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, issued these orders on Friday during his visit to the supermarket. The nazim also visited other city markets including the Empress Market, Umer Farooqui Market and Shahabuddin Market.

He said the out-of-order lift of the market should be repaired and the market be provided with escalators at its entrances, so that customers done have to bother climbing stairs.

The nazim said that after shifting of roadside stalls by the town authorities from the Dak-khana and 10 Number Road, the bus lane should be relocated after constructing a new median, so that the road could be widened and saved from re-emergence of roadside stalls.

Area residents and shopkeepers on the occasion thanked the nazim for his proposal of widening the road and beautifying the supermarket.

The nazim during his visit to the Umer Farooqui and Shahabuddin markets, constructed in 1967, expressed unhappiness at their deteriorating conditions. He instructed concerned officials to take steps for their improvement.
