Japan offers aid in power and social sectors

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi said that there was a great potential for foreign investors to make profitable investment in the power sector and produce cheaper energy in Pakistan to minimize the power scarcity in the country.

The minister was talking to Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Nobuaki Tanaka who called on him here on Thursday and discussed with him various important matters for making Japanese investment in the power sector which will also help to enhance and strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the minister also identified the Korangi Power Project which could be invested in. He informed the Japanese envoy that there were some other power projects which could be invested in.

The minister also sought their assistance for construction of the Indus Highway, drainage and village electrification.

Earlier, the minister had warmly welcomed the envoy and appreciated Japanese assistance extended to Pakistan. He said that Japan had always supported Pakistan in every sector, and added Japanese investors who are running businesses in Pakistan are making profits in a very conducive economic environment.
