VEHARI, Feb 8: The sale of spurious mineral water is going on unabated in the town and its adjoining areas.
During a visit to public places like General Bus Stand, Club Road, Jinnah Road , Old Bus Stand, Rail Bazaar, Chak 9-11 WB and Main Market of Sharqi Colony by this correspondent on Tuesday it was observed that substandard mineral water was being sold there.
A patient at a local private hospital said he was suffering from stomach problems after using mineral water of a multinational company he purchased from a drug shop of Jinnah Road.
A passenger, Mohammad Akram, who daily travels between Vehari and Hasilpur told this correspondent on Tuesday that he started vomiting after drinking mineral water purchased from a shop at the General Bus Stand a few days ago.
A resident of Sharqi Colony, Mohammad Aslam, said his son contracted dysentery when he drank mineral water he purchased from an area shop. He said when he complained to the health department, its officials visited the shop, declared the water fit for humans and did not take any action against him.
Same complaints were also received from other localities of the city and adjoining areas. But, the health officials did not take any action.
When contacted, the DHO was not available for comments. However, another official said no complaint was received in written so there was no question of any action.
RAIN: The city life disrupted due to continuous rain in Vehari and its adjoining areas due to continuous rain during the last three days.
Electricity suspension and telephone service disruption was reported from various localities. Sewerage system in some localities, including Muslim Town, failed. The TMA failed to clean the sewerage line, adding to the problems of the people.
At least six people, including two children, suffered injuries due to skidding of motorcycles and bicycles on various city roads. They include; Salim, Arshad, Majid Ali, Tanvir and Sulman. Meanwhile, incidence of flu and cold has risen, specially among children, due to fall in temperature.
