LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Feb 7: Two personnel of the Khyber Rifles were killed when they were hit by an avalanche in the Tirah valley near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border about two days ago.

Reports reaching here from the valley said that Havaldar Ayaz Khan Khattak and Havaldar Khaliq Zaman Khattak were posted at the Brekh Mamad Kandao border post. On Friday morning, the two were hit by the avalanche when they came out of their trench and were buried under the snow.

Their bodies were retrieved on Saturday and after post-mortem at the Jarhobe headquarters were taken to Jamrud Fort and were handed over to relatives.

It may be mentioned that heavy snowfall in the Tirah valley and adjoining hill tops has paralyzed normal life for the past two weeks.

LOADSHEDDING: Continued loadshedding and low electric voltage again forced the residents of Jamrud and Bara to come out on streets on Sunday despite rain and cold weather.

Protesters, including children and women, blocked the Peshawar-Torkham Road for almost an hour to protest against unannounced loadshedding in their localities. The protesters also pelted some vehicles with stones, damaging their windshields.

Residents of the Shalobar area in Bara blocked the Shalobar Road for some time as a mark of protest against loadshedding. Angry protesters also uprooted a signboard of the area MNA. The protesters chanted slogans against the political administration and Wapda officials for their failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply to their area.
