Indian officer faces rape trial

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: An army major, accused of the rape of a mother and daughter in revolt-hit Indian Kashmir that sparked protests, will be tried by a military court, an army spokesman said on Saturday.

Major Rehman Hussain, who is accused of raping the woman and her 12-year-old daughter in Handwara region, will face a court martial, Lt-Col V.K. Batra said. The trial will start on Monday in the border town of Uri in Baramulla district, Batra said.-AFP
