KARACHI, Nov 18: The renovation and remaining construction work on Korangi Zoo's aquarium building is expected to start in the next few days as the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has approved the plan in this regard.

The construction work on the aquarium building, started in 1992, had been obstructed due to red tape when only pillars and some portion the of roof had been completed.

The Coordinator to City Nazim, Dr Fayyaz Alam, told PPI on Thursday that an estimated cost of Rs4 million would be spent to complete the remaining portion of the building. Work was expected to be completed in the next six months.

He said that with the completion of the aquarium building at the Korangi Zoo, the number of aquariums in the country would become three. All three aquariums were located in Karachi; at the Karachi Zoo, Clifton and Korangi Zoo.

The inauguration of the Clifton aquarium was expected in the next three months whereas the Karachi Zoo aquarium had already been inaugurated a few weeks back.

Dr Fayyaz informed that along with the aquarium, new animals had also been inducted in the Korangi Zoo. "This is to provide recreational facilities to the people of Landhi, Korangi and Bin Qasim towns," he said.

Meanwhile, the Sui Southern Gas Company has decided to construct a fountain at the Safari Park, said Dr Fayyaz Alam.

He said that officials of the SSGC had also assured to participate in tree plantation in city, and would release funds from its environment budget on a regular basis in this regard. - PPI
