KARACHI, Nov 16: A man was killed on his return from Dubai by armed men in Lyari on Tuesday. Police said that Habibur Rehman, 40, had come from Dubai on Tuesday morning. He was heading for a hotel located on Sheedi Village Road in the premises of Kalakot police station when some armed men intercepted him and tried to deprive him of his luggage.
On his resistance, they shot at him and took away his belongings. Police said that the victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment.
The victim was a resident of Zhob, Balochistan, police added.
ACCIDENTS: Four persons have died in road accidents in different parts of the city since Sunday.
An elderly woman died and three others were wounded in an accident on the Super Highway on Tuesday.
Police said that a Pajaro (BC-9466) over turned near Nooriabad resulting in death of Hafiza, 55. Three other occupants of the vehicle were also injured in the accident.
In Gizri, a young man died and a boy was injured in an accident near Punjab Chowrangi on Monday.
Police said that Babar, 24, and Mansoor 15, were on their motorcycle when a speeding Illyas Coach knocked them down. Babar died on the spot while Mansoor was shifted to hospital for treatment. Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver of the vehicle.
A six-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run accident in Mauripur on Sunday.
Police said that Abdul Nabi was playing near his house in Mauripur when an unknown speeding vehicle hit him. The seriously injured boy was taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
In Samanabad, a speeding pickup truck knocked down a pedestrian on the main road.
Police said that Khadim Husain, 45, was crossing the main road in Samanabad when a truck hit him. He was taken to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
ENCOUNTER: A pedestrian died and a few others were wounded including a policeman in an encounter in Shah Faisal Colony on Monday night.
Police said that two suspects barged into a house in Shah Faisal Colony and started looting the house. The women folk present in the house came out and raised alarm gathering a huge crowd. The suspects took a five-year-old girl hostage from the house and managed their escape.
Police reached the spot and chased the suspects. One of the two suspects made his escape by opening fire at the police resulting in death of a passer-by, Asif, 28. ASI Saghir was also wounded in the firing. The other suspect dropped the girl and entered another house in Drigh Colony.
Finally, police raided the house and arrested the suspect, Taufeeq. Police also recovered a TT pistol, Rs5,000 cash and other valuables from his possession.
BODY FOUND: The bullet-riddled body of a young man was recovered in Saeedabad on Tuesday.
Police said that the body was found near the terminus of G-3 minibus in Ittehad Town. Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital for postmortem.
SUICIDE: Two persons committed suicide in different parts of the city since Monday.
Police said that Zeba committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her house in Zaman Town early on Tuesday morning. Her body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination.
Police said that the woman, having two children, had been suffering from mental illness.
In Saeedabad, a young man committed suicide in his house in Ittehad Town.
Police said that Sajjad, 22, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his house. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital early on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the young man was jobless for the past several months.
ROBBERY: A trading company was robbed of spare parts in SITE.
Police said that four or five men broke into a shop in Rasheedabad, SITE area. They took away spare parts of textile mills. Complainant Mohammad Yousaf lodged an FIR against unknown suspects at the Baldia Town police station.
The accurate worth of losses could not be ascertained immediately, police added.
