QUETTA, Nov 11: District Nazim Mohammad Rahim Kakar said on Thursday that some ulema were spreading sectarian hatred and a few newspapers were encouraging those elements by publishing their statements.

Speaking at a press conference, the nazim said the district government had directed newspaper managements, under Section 144, not to publish news spreading hatred among sects.

He said the district government would cancel the declaration of newspapers which did not abide by law and take legal action against them.

He said ulema were not playing their role against terrorism. He said it was the responsibility of the religious figures to support the government's efforts to curb terrorism and foster brotherhood among different sects.

He said his government had sent a proposal to the provincial authorities to select a park where political parties should hold public gatherings.
