LARKANA, Nov 10: The construction of a new waterway from the Taunsa Barrage to irrigate vast tracts of desert land in Punjab will further aggravate the water situation in Sindh.

This was stated by the chief of the Sindh National Front, Mr Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, while speaking at an Iftar party here on Wednesday.

He said the construction of Kalabagh dam against the will of people of the three provinces will harm the country.

Mr Bhutto said the rulers were planning new water projects while bulldozing the resolutions of Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan assemblies. He said that their rigidity would harm the very foundations of the country.

He said the people of Sindh had not witnessed water flowing downstream Kotri since long.

He called upon Sindhis to come out of slumber; otherwise, they would wait for a single drop of water to drink.

Mr Bhutto said the only solution to the Kashmir dispute was to declare the valley an independent state.

He said that the rulers had unnecessarily jumped on the bandwagon of the war on terror.

"The degree of insecurity can be gauged from the situation where the entire official machinery was concentrating only to save their own lives", he said.

"Time demands new leadership with new ideas and approaches" Mr Bhutto said.

He criticized government for corruption, poor law and order, rising graph of unemployment and poverty.

He said the National Accountability Bureau was sending summons to ministers to attend courts in corruption cases.

He said the rulers were mistaken in understanding Sindhis, Baloch and Pakhtun.

He said assemblies had become a laughing stock for the people where the members were trading charges and thumping benches.
