LAHORE, June 3: The Jamaat-i-Islami plans to hold at least 1,000 public meetings, seminars and rallies to prevent the government from taking a U-turn on Kashmir issue, party officials said on Monday.

They said the events will be organized throughout the country within a fortnight to mobilize people to press the government against any decision that could harm the freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir.

They said at least 10 such events will be held in each district. In Lahore, 50 such functions would be organized ahead of a big Kashmir conference on Minar-i-Pakistan lawns on June 16.

The party’s Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s allies would be invited to the conference. An effort was being made to bring a large number of relatives of those martyred in Kashmir.

People belonging to all segments of society will be approached to ensure their representation. A vigorous fund-raising campaign is planned for the purpose.

Meanwhile, JI’s deputy secretary general Farid Piracha said that changing stance on Kashmir under foreign pressure would amount to surrendering without a fight. Speaking at a conference here on Walton Road, he urged the government not to beg for talks with India or give assurances of not using nuclear weapons in a war.
