MULTAN, June 3: The Anti-Terrorism Court No. 2 awarded capital punishment on two counts to a terrorist belonging to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi on Monday.

According to the prosecution, Zahid Husain along with an accomplice opened fire on ASI Ghulam Rasool and constable Arshad when they signalled them to stop at a picket on Aug 13, 2000. Ghulam Rasool died on the spot while Arshad succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The court awarded death sentence on two counts to the convict besides rigorous imprisonment for 40 years and three months and a fine of Rs260,000. In case of default, the convict will have to undergo further imprisonment of 16-and-a-half years.

ROBBERIES: Robbers took away cash and valuables worth Rs0.7 million in three strikes here on Monday.

Four dacoits, including a woman, forced their entry into the house of a trader, Mehboob Ghani, in Shah Rukn-i-Alam Colony in broad daylight. They took hostage the family and made off with cash and jewellery worth Rs0.66 million.

Two motorcyclists deprived Masroor Anwar of Rs89,000 in the Bohar Gate area.

Three robbers snatched Rs25,000 in cash from a leather merchant, Bashir Ahmad, inside Lohari Gate.
