SHEIKHUPURA, June 3: The city and its adjoining areas witnessed a thunderstorm on Sunday night.

The rainwater submerged several low-lying areas including Mohalla Rahmanpura, Jhang Road, Lahore Road near the PSO petrol pump, Rahmat Colony, Jandiala Road, Rasool Nagar and Shah Colony. The rainwater entered dozen of houses in the areas. Power supply to many areas was disrupted and a number of trees were uprooted.

The citizens protested against the indifference of the tehsil municipal administration. They demanded the removal of the tehsil council administrator. They also demanded an inquiry against him on charges of embezzlement.

PROTEST: Drug shop owners have protested against the alleged corruption and excesses of the drug inspector.

In an emergency session the office-bearers of the Druggists Association on Monday alleged that inspector Obaidullah Beg demanded Rs500 to Rs1,000 per month from every drug shop owner. If someone failed to grease his palm, he involved him in fake cases, they maintained.

They demanded immediate transfer of the inspector.

When contacted, Inspector Beg said those levelling allegation against him were involved in selling spurious drugs and medicines containing sedatives.

He said the shopkeepers got angry when their shops were raided to recover spurious drugs.

He claimed that Bilal Medical and Al-Faisal Medical stores were busy in selling spurious drugs.
